(SAVANNAH, GA) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) is seeking nominations and sponsors in preparation for its 11th Annual Night of Champions celebration of workplace success stories.

“Night of Champions is designed to highlight employees and their employers who, through dedication and leadership, illuminate the possibilities and benefits of inclusive communities and workspaces,” said Night of Champions chairman Tom Kenkel. “We welcome nominees from all over the lowcountry and would love to hear from anyone with an uplifting story to share.”

Employee nominations may be completed online at https://nightofchampions.org, and will remain open until Friday, February 28.

The selected individuals and their employers will be invited as special guests to the Night of Champions dinner on Thursday, April 2, at 6 p.m. at the Savannah Convention Center.

Last year’s honorees included Erik Glasford, Effingham Health System; Meghan Mayle,
Bubba Gumbo’s Seafood Restaurant; Reginald Horton, The Savannah Bananas; Chris Maynor, DIRTT Environmental Solutions; and Chris Holt, Tybee Island YMCA. Amy Wright, owner of Bitty & Beau’s Coffee, was the recipient of the 2019 President’s Award.

The evening will include a recognition ceremony, a silent auction benefiting LDSS and a cash bar, with Cyreia Sandlin serving as the night’s emcee. This year’s President’s Award honoree is Will Howell of WillPower Ties.

“The success of Night of Champions is directly tied to local organizations that create opportunities for people to demonstrate their desire to work and make valued contributions to their community,” Kenkel said. “The achievements of these champions in the workforce inspire more local organizations to take up the mission to light the way.”

LDSS is also seeking sponsors to support Night of Champions as it raises money to sustain the programs it offers throughout the year, including Camp Buddy for children with Down syndrome, its annual Buddy Walk in Forsyth Park and its weekly support meetings for the families and friends of individuals with Down syndrome.

The Second Annual Royal Flush Casino Night Announced for Feb. 27 Will Benefit the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity

(SAVANNAH, GA) Roto-Rooter Plumbers of Savannah will present its Second Annual Royal Flush Casino Night on Thursday, Feb. 27, benefiting the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity.

The casino-themed party will take place at the Savannah Station, 601 Cohen St., and will feature heavy hors-d’oeuvres, an open bar, live music by the Mainstreet Dance Band and complimentary casino games including Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Texas Hold’em and Wheel of Fortune. Individual tickets for the event are $60; tickets for couples are $90. The tables will open promptly at 7 p.m.

Each guest will receive $15,000 in “funny-money” chips when they arrive. Additional chips may be purchased throughout the evening as guests will be able to put their chips towards raffle tickets for a drawing to win prizes worth more than $15,000, including $2,000 in cash. The greater a guest’s winnings, the more tickets they may contribute to the drawings.

The goal of the fundraiser is to encourage guests to build up their winnings and go “all in” to support our local Habitat for Humanity. Last year’s event enabled Roto-Rooter Plumbers of Savannah to donate over $7,500 to the charity of choice. Sponsorships are limited but still available. Since 1983, Habitat for Humanity has provided homes for 151 Chatham County families. The organization plans to raise over $400,000 in private donations this year which, when added to other funding it secures as well as its revolving loan fund, will result in the construction of another Habitat 7 houses in 2020.

“Residents of Chatham County really know the value of homes in bringing us together as a community,” said Brett Lundy, board president of the Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity. “We are so grateful that Roto-Rooter is helping to lead the way as we build up the foundations of our community from inside the home, and how fitting a partnership.”

Inspire Your Community Podcast Donated $2,000 to Richmond Hill’s Backpacks of Love Program

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Inspire Your Community podcast, which was launched this year by Chris Tilton, one of two principals at the Dewitt Tilton Group construction firm, to share inspiring local stories of inspiration, kindness and positivity, wrapped up 2019 with a $2,000 donation to Backpacks of Love and a volunteer session of packing family food boxes.

The podcast launched in the spring of 2019, seeking to inspire the community with true stories and to support the organizations that generated those stories with Dewitt Tilton Group’s philanthropy. Projects to date have included support for the family of a police officer who lost his life in the line of duty, funding for art supplies at a local elementary school and a creative project that supports local breast cancer survivors.

For the final episode of the year, the podcast turned its attention to the Backpacks of Love program in Richmond Hill, Ga. This organization, launched in January 2013, sends needy and potentially hungry children home with bags of food every Friday, as well as boxes of food on holiday breaks, filling the gaps ordinarily filled by their school-based breakfasts and lunches. The United Way of the Coastal Empire partners with the New Beginnings Community Church to provide funding that allows the group to obtain food from Second Harvest Food Bank, and other donations supplement the amount and type of food included.

Each Friday, the participating children each receive a bag containing two entrees such as soup or ravioli, a two-pack of instant oatmeal, an individual cereal package, a granola bar, fruit snack, crackers, cookies, fruit cup or fresh fruit, juice box and shelf-stable milk.

Melodie Lane, director of Backpacks of Love, worked with the Dewitt Tilton Group before the holiday break as they and their families packed over 25 food boxes with a ham or turkey, instant potatoes, canned yams, six to eight cans of vegetables and a can of gravy, several boxes of macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and sauce, peanut butter and jelly, beans, bread, rice, cornmeal mix, pancake mix and syrup, cake mix and frosting, plus a bag of candy canes or other holiday candy.

“The thought of children going hungry is just not acceptable,” said Chris Tilton, host of the podcast. “We wanted to support Backpacks of Love because these folks are not only feeding children during the holidays but throughout the school year. This effort is truly inspiring.”

Guests are invited to bring their pets to take pictures with Santa Claus. The event will also feature Christmas music and some special Christmas treats.

Dogs will be available for adoption at the event through Renegade Paws Rescue and guests are encouraged to bring a new member of the family home in time for the holidays.

Renegade Paws Rescue is a 501©(3) volunteer-based organization dedicated to providing the highest level of care for unwanted, abused or injured dogs in the Coastal Empire and surrounding areas. In support of the organization, guests are encouraged to bring a donation, such as blankets, towels, dog food and any other pet necessities.

Palmetto Animal League Donation Drive to be Held During December Through “Santa Paws at Pinnacle” Program

(BLUFFTON/BEAUFORT, SC) Santa Paws at Pinnacle, a holiday donation drive benefiting Palmetto Animal League (PAL), will launch for the month of December with a kick-off party hosted at Pinnacle Medical Group’s Sheridan Park office at 7 Mallet Way on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The kick-off event will feature door prizes, refreshments and a visit from PAL’s furry friends. Guests are encouraged to bring new blankets, towels, dog toys, food, cleaning supplies, shampoos, collars, leashes, beds and tennis balls. Pet store gift cards and cash donations are also accepted.

All donations will be given to PAL and distributed among rural shelters with limited resources. With each donation, guests will receive a $50 gift card toward an injectable treatment at Pinnacle Medical Group.

“The holiday season is a time to give back,” said Dr. Audrey Klenke, plastic surgeon and principal of Pinnacle Medical Group. “With Santa Paws at Pinnacle, we’re able to give much-needed resources to our local shelters, while also providing a fun celebration for the community as a ‘thank you’ for their generosity.”

PAL is a nonprofit no-kill shelter in Okatie that houses dogs and cats in need of a good home. Currently in its fifth year of operation, PAL offers fostering and volunteer opportunities in both its shelter and free-standing thrift store.

This will mark the sixth year Pinnacle Medical Group has partnered with PAL to collect supplies for rescue pets. Previously called “Blankets for Botox,” Santa Paws at Pinnacle will continue collecting donations throughout the entire month of December at the Pinnacle’s Bluffton and Beaufort offices during normal business hours.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket is pleased to announce that an outpouring of community support has enabled the company to raise $137,758 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Savannah. This was the sixth year Enmarket has collected community donations through this annual fundraiser, and in total, the company has raised nearly $640,000.

Enmarket team members presented the check to representatives of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the Light the Night Walk held on Saturday, November 9.

For one month each year, the company’s 124 convenience stores in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina sell Light the Night paper balloon icons for $1 each. The proceeds are donated in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure blood cancer and help patients and their families.

“Enmarket’s customers really came through this year, as we knew they would, showing compassion and extraordinary support for the work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,” said Brett Giesick, president of Enmarket. “We are thankful for each donation, and for the tireless efforts of our staff members to help us reach this year’s goal.”

Giesick also recognized the staff at Enmarket 845, led by manager Tom Nord, as the top fundraising store during this year’s campaign. Located in Beaufort, SC, the store contributed $5,187. This is the second year in a row that Nord and his staff have raised more money than any other Enmarket location.

“Private funding is so critical for us to continue our mission, and we are very grateful to Enmarket and its customers for their overwhelming support through the Light the Night program,” said Lauren Mathews, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Georgia Chapter’s Campaign Manager for Light The Night.
