Enmarket Presents $137,758 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the Light the Night Walk

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket is pleased to announce that an outpouring of community support has enabled the company to raise $137,758 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Savannah. This was the sixth year Enmarket has collected community donations through this annual fundraiser, and in total, the company has raised nearly $640,000.

Enmarket team members presented the check to representatives of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the Light the Night Walk held on Saturday, November 9.

For one month each year, the company’s 124 convenience stores in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina sell Light the Night paper balloon icons for $1 each. The proceeds are donated in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure blood cancer and help patients and their families.

“Enmarket’s customers really came through this year, as we knew they would, showing compassion and extraordinary support for the work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,” said Brett Giesick, president of Enmarket. “We are thankful for each donation, and for the tireless efforts of our staff members to help us reach this year’s goal.”

Giesick also recognized the staff at Enmarket 845, led by manager Tom Nord, as the top fundraising store during this year’s campaign. Located in Beaufort, SC, the store contributed $5,187. This is the second year in a row that Nord and his staff have raised more money than any other Enmarket location.

“Private funding is so critical for us to continue our mission, and we are very grateful to Enmarket and its customers for their overwhelming support through the Light the Night program,” said Lauren Mathews, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Georgia Chapter’s Campaign Manager for Light The Night.

(HARDEEVILLE, S.C.) In just over one year since Enmarket acquired Joker Joe’s Truck Stop just off Interstate 95’s Exit 8, the property has undergone a complete renovation and expansion.

Enmarket is the largest and fastest-growing convenience store operator based in the coastal Georgia and South Carolina low country region, and the new Enmarket Travel Plaza — complete with the region’s first franchise of the Texas-originated Fuzzy’s Taco Shop — just opened earlier this month.

The nine-acre Hardeeville property, at the interchange of US Highway 278 with I-95, becomes the largest travel plaza in Enmarket’s extensive three-state inventory. With its location at the gateway to Hilton Head Island and the South Carolina Lowcountry, the newest Enmarket Travel Plaza is ideally situated to serve everyone from long-haul truckers traveling the I-95 corridor to vacationers headed to and from South Carolina’s beaches.

“With this travel plaza we are significantly expanding our diesel business,” said Brett Giesick, Enmarket’s president. “We’re also solidifying our position as a major fuel and restaurant provider between our home market of Savannah and Charleston. We’re also bringing an up-and-coming, exciting and affordable new fast-casual restaurant to the area as the first South Carolina location of Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.”

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop specializes in Baja-style tacos, chips and queso and cold beverages. The menu is described as “Mexican favorites with a splash of Baja.”

The restaurant got its start in 2003, capitalizing on a location near the Texas Christian University campus in Fort Worth and making a name for itself as friendly to student budgets. It was named to Nation’s Restaurant News’ 10 Fastest-Growing Chains of 2018 and now has 150 corporate and franchise-owned locations in 16 states. Fuzzy’s currently is operating in Georgia in Athens and Alpharetta. This is the franchise’s first South Carolina location.

The re-designed 13,000-square-foot travel plaza includes nine diesel lanes. Improvements added since the Enmarket acquisition include an enlarged trucker’s lounge, updated showers, modernized truck scales and laundry facilities, along with a resurfaced parking lot and overnight parking for over-the-road and RV drivers.

In the remodeled convenience store, customers will find fresh hot and cold grab-and-go food options, the newest bean-to-cup coffee brewers and an expanded cooler and beer cave. The location will also mark Enmarket’s debut of Mooz, a new frozen yogurt offering. Mooz will include nine varieties of soft-serve frozen yogurt and features a topping bar with 24 different offerings.

Hutter & Associates served as the general contractor for the project.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah’s largest convenience store retailer has a new home. Enmarket, locally owned and operated for over 55 years, has moved into its new corporate headquarters building at the corner of Chatham Parkway and Highway 17.

The 23,000-square-foot office building is the first completed phase of a larger complex on the site along one of Savannah’s fastest-growing commercial corridors. When complete, the complex will include a second building equal to the size of the headquarters structure. This will allow room for future expansion as well as a modernized and expanded version of the Enmarket store formerly on the site and an adjacent 70-foot tunnel car wash.

For now, the companion structure will serve as warehouse space and home to various store support teams.

“Our current office staff includes about 40 people who commute from Savannah, the islands, Richmond Hill, Effingham County and Bluffton, South Carolina,” said Brett Giesick, president of Enmarket. “The new headquarters site is ideal. It’s central and easily accessible for employees commuting from all of these areas.

“It will also be adjacent to one of our stores, which means our corporate staff can enjoy the same store amenities and convenience as other customers.”

The new headquarters will house the accounting, marketing, facilities, real estate, car wash, fuel team, human resources, training, information technology and operations departments for the company. It will serve as the central command center for Enmarket’s 124 convenience stores and 14 quick serve restaurants.

The new headquarters includes nearly 70 office spaces, multiple conference rooms, a bullpen area for visiting team members, a kitchen that features Enmarket’s dispensed beverage options, and a large training room with a capacity of 160 people. Such training space has become essential for Enmarket, which has built its reputation as an early adopter of the latest industry technology. Just this year, the chain led the Savannah market in introducing app-based, line-skipping technology with its Skip Frictionless Checkout. The office also features a state-of-the-art interactive multimedia system to be used for conferencing, training and more.

The rebuilt and expanded store at the site is expected to open in March, with the tunnel car wash coming into service simultaneously or shortly afterward. Plans for the two remaining out parcels on the site complex have not been announced.

Savannah-based general contractor West Construction Co. has served as the builder for the Enmarket complex.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket and Healthy Savannah presented a $1,000 donation to Union Mission as part of the 2019 Enmarket Encourage Health Education Series.

Following the presentation, 15 volunteer representatives from Enmarket and Healthy Savannah remained onsite to repaint walls at Union Mission’s Ben and Bettye Barnes Center, 1407 Atlantic Avenue. The center provides permanent supportive housing for up to 16 single women living with disabilities. Program tenants are supported by such services as case management and community resource referrals.

“Our employees are always eager to give back to the community, and these volunteer days, which are new to the Encourage Health Series, have proven to be successful on all sides,” said Brett Giesick, president of Enmarket. “We appreciate the opportunity to learn about this organization and its mission. From this experience, our hope is that our team members will want to get even more involved.”

Union Mission tackles the major issue of homelessness in our area in a number of different ways, including operating an emergency shelter, providing permanent supportive housing, and addressing root causes of homelessness with specialized services in mental health counseling and employment training programs.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Savannah chiropractor Michael Vaughn focused on the facts and fictions of CBD oil during the third presentation of the Enmarket Encourage Health Education Series, held at the Charles H. Morris Center.

Union Mission received the nonprofit grant, which is awarded at each Encourage Health lecture. A healthy lunch was provided to all attendees by Enmarket before the lecture.

Cannabidiol oil, better known as CBD, is a heavily trending product derived from non-intoxicating elements of marijuana or hemp and sold over the counter for the treatment of a variety of health problems. In his talk, Dr. Vaughn covered the history of the cannabis plant and gave a brief overview of the human endocannabinoid system before providing examples of the believed benefits of CBD: improved sleep, anxiety reduction, and relief from musculoskeletal pain, brain injury and epilepsy.

Dr. Vaughn also discussed CBD’s legal status, safety and marketing. Studies on long-term effects have yet to be completed, but he shared some insights on this developing field.

“This is a fascinating subject that holds the potential to be of great benefit to many people, but the jury is still out on many aspects of CBD oil,” Vaughn said. “I believe many people can find relief through CBD products, but I realize it is poorly understood by the public and that many in the medical field are skeptical.”

Dr. Vaughn has practiced chiropractic medicine in Georgia for decades. A product of Savannah Christian Preparatory School and Armstrong State College, he graduated from a chiropractic program at Parker College in Dallas, Texas. He completed post-grad work leading to diplomat status with the American College of Chiropractic Neurology. He has worked with world-class competitive athletes, including serving with the USA Weightlifting Federation and serving as treating chiropractor for the Greece Olympic track team during the Atlanta-hosted 1996 Summer Olympic Games. He is currently in private practice at Savannah Chiropractic Center, where he specializes in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal disorders and rehabilitation. In addition, he continues to serve in a variety of educational and regulatory roles in his profession.

The Enmarket Encourage Health Educational Series is a wide-ranging presentation of diverse health topics. Previous subjects this year included meditation for stress relief and food insecurity issues in Savannah. The upcoming October presentation will focus on the value of strength training at any age. The popular free series is presented in a lunch-and-learn format, with each session offering the community the opportunity to hear local experts discuss health-related topics in a non-commercial atmosphere.

Enmarket to Raise Funds Throughout August for LLS’s Light the Night

(SAVANNAH, GA) All 124 of Enmarket’s convenience stores across Georgia and the Carolinas will join the fight against blood cancers in August, marking the seventh consecutive year the stores have helped raise money during the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night campaign.

The stores’ month-long campaign will involve selling Light the Night paper icons for $1 each to support the non-profit’s mission to cure blood cancer and to help patients and their families.

To date, Enmarket’s participation in the organization’s major fundraiser has raised over a total of $500,000. This year, the convenience store chain hopes to partner with its customers to add $150,000 to that number.

Each year, the event spurs friendly competition among the stores and last year, the Port Royal, South Carolina, location won bragging rights for the most money raised at a single store.

“Our customers and our employees enjoy this fun and easy way to support an important cause,” said Brett Giesick, president of Enmarket. “Our mission is to enrich life in the communities we serve, and we do that in a variety of ways, from our Encourage Health speaker series to the LLS campaign. This particular icon sale gives customers a chance to join thousands of other customers to make a major impact with a small donation.”

The money that’s raised will be donated to LLS at the annual Light the Night program, set for Nov. 9 on Memorial Health’s campus in Savannah. At that event, walkers carry illuminated balloons along the walk route – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory. The new state-of-the-art convenience store was renovated to integrate its appearance into the surrounding historic district. The design of the new 3,522-square-foot convenience store at 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. drew from the site’s transportation-related history with its proximity adjacent to the Central of Georgia Railway and Georgia State Railroad Museum.

The non-traditional design includes, among other things, an outdoor dining patio, a green space, and a bike service area. Enmarket contracted with a local artist to design and paint a community-themed mural on one of the exterior walls.

The rebuilt outlet is accessible to trolleys and other vehicles critical to Savannah’s downtown tourism industry and features four multi-product dispensers with gasoline and diesel offering.

“We are thrilled to unveil this beautiful new store in the historic district,” said Brett Giesick, President of Enmarket. “The design and concept reflect the direction we are taking in the community which is to provide a more modern, customer-friendly store with a dual focus on pedestrian and automobile traffic.”

The new store features Enmarket products already available at other full-service stores, including fountain drinks, “chillen” frozen beverages, bean-to-cup coffee, and local craft beer. The location also includes Enmarket’s proprietary kitchen concept, The Eatery, featuring its signature breakfast biscuits and antibiotic-free, never-frozen chicken. Fresh grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, parfaits, and more are prepared on-site. This is the only convenience store to offer all of these options on the western end of downtown Savannah.
