Enmarket and Healthy Savannah Provides Day of Service and Donation to Union Mission

(SAVANNAH, GA) Enmarket and Healthy Savannah presented a $1,000 donation to Union Mission as part of the 2019 Enmarket Encourage Health Education Series.

Following the presentation, 15 volunteer representatives from Enmarket and Healthy Savannah remained onsite to repaint walls at Union Mission’s Ben and Bettye Barnes Center, 1407 Atlantic Avenue. The center provides permanent supportive housing for up to 16 single women living with disabilities. Program tenants are supported by such services as case management and community resource referrals.

“Our employees are always eager to give back to the community, and these volunteer days, which are new to the Encourage Health Series, have proven to be successful on all sides,” said Brett Giesick, president of Enmarket. “We appreciate the opportunity to learn about this organization and its mission. From this experience, our hope is that our team members will want to get even more involved.”

Union Mission tackles the major issue of homelessness in our area in a number of different ways, including operating an emergency shelter, providing permanent supportive housing, and addressing root causes of homelessness with specialized services in mental health counseling and employment training programs.

This marks the sixth year for the Enmarket Encourage Health Education Series, sponsored by Healthy Savannah, St. Joseph’s/Candler, Clover Health, Sandfly Family Dental, the Charles H. Morris Center at Trustees’ Garden, Cha Bella, David’s Dry Cleaners, the City of Savannah, Savannah Morning News, Savannah Magazine and WRHQ.

(SAVANNAH, GA) Terence Brewton has been named as a resident assistant for the Park Place Outreach transitional living program (TLP) team.

Brewton will be responsible for ensuring the safety of TLP residents while he works with them to facilitate various activities.

“The best part of the job is being able to interact with the boys,” he said.

Brewton has worked with at-risk kids and teens who were dealing with homelessness in communities in Illinois. At 360 Youth Services Cornerstone Shelter for Boys, he served as the behavioral aid for at-risk males ages 13-18 where he tried to help them finish their education and/or be reunited with their families.

Brewton has an associate degree in business administration and is studying to further his degree with a focus on human resource management.

Park Place Outreach is one of four area non-profit organizations that will receive a $1,000 grant as part of the 2019 series. Park Place Outreach- Youth Emergency Services supports runaway, homeless, and at-risk young people, ages 11-21, through residential and after-school programs.

Enmarket representatives volunteered at the House in the sun garden by planting fresh herbs and cleaning up the yard and sidewalks.

Peacock Subaru Donates $4,875 to Greater Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine

(HARDEEVILLE, S.C.) Peacock Subaruhas donated $4,875 to Greater Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers in Medicineas part of the annual Subaru Share the Love event.

The funds were raised during November and December 2018. Each Subaru buyer could decide whether to donate a portion of the purchase price to a national charity or Peacock Subaru’s hometown nonprofit, the local chapter of Volunteers In Medicine.

Volunteers with the organization provide care to community members in Bluffton and Jasper County who are without medical insurance.

“It’s donations like these that give us the freedom to stop worrying about how we can do it and to start focusing on the people who need it,” said Dennis Toney, director of development for Bluffton Jasper County VIM. “We have outstanding nurses and physicians who donate their time and expertise, but it’s imperative that we have the financial assistance to make a difference, and Peacock Subarujust made that possible.”

The donation will go toward the daily operations of the organization, which is run by approximately 90 volunteers.

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society(LDSS) is asking for nominations for its 10th Annual Night of Championscelebration scheduled for May 9.

The event recognizes employees with different abilities in the Savannah area who excel in their workplace and their employers who have come to understand the value and importance of inclusive employment.

Night of Championscelebrates employees and their employers whose dedication and leadership shine a light on the possibilities and benefits of inclusive communities and work spaces,” said Night of Championschairperson Tom Kenkel.

This year, the donation was increased by $500, for a total of $2,000, which will be used to support the growing needs of the House and their residents.
