The Savannah Jaycees Held Mayoral Forum

Standard

(SAVANNAH, GA) The Savannah Jaycees held a Savannah Mayoral Candidate Forum on Monday, September 28. The forum, free and open to the public, was held at The Coastal Georgia Center, located at 305 Fahm St.

Since 1942, The Savannah Jaycees’ vision has remained true as a leader of active and enlightened citizens. The mayoral forum was designed to complement the organization’s commitment to ensuring positive change for the community in which their members live and work.

As far back as 1950, records indicate that The Savannah Jaycees have played a major role in Savannah’s political system. The Jaycees and the League of Women Voters are credited with campaigning for a council-manager form of government. In December 1953, their efforts were successful with the establishment of a new charter for Savannah’s governing body.

“The Savannah Jaycees have a long history for inspiring young men and women to take an active role in civic projects, political matters and economic opportunities,” said Nicole Hyatt, Jaycee member and Forum Chair. “We feel a responsibility to provide a time and place to hear from these candidates who hope to be leading the way in all of these significant areas of our community.”

Attorney Charles Bowen served as moderator for the Q & A format. Bowen is a business attorney who focuses on commercial, banking, entertainment and manufacturing law and also offers comprehensive mediation services.

All four candidates in the mayoral race attended and were asked the same questions.
